After only doing a handful of races last year I was pleased to finally get the season off to a start last weekend at Middlesbrough. However not knowing what form you’ll be in after a few months of winter training always adds to the nerves. This winter (touch wood) hasn’t been to bad for training relatively mild and dry so far. Even with this in mind I still managed to come off going round a roundabout one Sunday morning, giving the tarmac a lick of my skin. This was my first time at the Prissick cycle track and after analyzing the track online it looked to be a good one with few corners and a couple of straights. Although after my fall last year I was a bit nervous taking the corners at speed especially as the track wasn’t dry.

After a few laps this was the least of my worries, as id forgot how important positioning was in the group and how a lapse in concentration could quickly lead to you been at the back of the group. A few people including myself tried to break free of the group however each time was caught within a lap or two. I’d concluded that the best idea was to try sit near the front and wait for the final laps before making an effort as sprinting isn’t really my strongest point. The last lap came and i was still mid bunch, going into the last two corners the group slowed and i took my chance, giving it everything i could to try and get clear. I was onto the home straight when at this point my legs where screaming out in pain as riders started to come past. My aim then moved to coming within the top 10 to gain some points which thankfully happened as i found out i came 9th. All in all i was quite pleased with how the race panned out and am definitely looking forward to the rest of the season with Manilla. It is great to have the support of a team. A huge thank you to everyone who went to support and well done to everyone who raced.

And a big thank you to my sponsors for all your continued support, Rusty’s Cycles, MOJO Europe, Andrew Coulson, Braun International and everyone at Manilla. Looking forward to a great season ahead.
